First Benin-Brazil School of Mathematics on Calculus of Variations and Operations Research

Ouidah - BENIN

 

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

The first Benin-Brazil School on Mathematics will be held in the city of Ouidah, Benin,
on September 3 - 15, 2007, followed by a Conference on September 17-22, 2007.
It will be devoted to Calculus of Variations and Operations Research and consists
of the following activities:

1) ELEMENTARY MINICOURSES

These minicourses will be addressed to undergraduate students of mathematics from Benin and near-by countries. They will focus on 5 themes and be taught in French.

1A) Linear Programming (Clovis Gonzaga, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil).

1B) Nonlinear Programming (Luis Mauricio Grana Drummond, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

1C) Continuous Optimization and Differential Geometry (Paulo Roberto de Oliveira, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil)

1D) Network Optimization (Adam Ouorou, France Telecom R&D Division, France).

1E) Stochastic Optimization (Jean Philippe Vial, Prof. Emeritus University of Geneva, Switzerland)

2) ADVANCED MINICOURSES

These minicourses will be addressed to graduate students of mathematics from Benin and near-by countries. They involved 6 themes and will be taught either in English or in French.

2A) Computational Methods of Optimization (Ernesto Birgin, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil)

2B) Optimisation Combinatoire (Celso Ribeiro, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

2C) Operations Research for Development (Claudio Bornstein, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil)

2D) Enlargements of Maximal Monotone Operators (Alfredo Iusem, IMPA, Brazil)

2E) Bi-level Programming (Susana Scheimberg, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)

2F) Variational Inequalities (Benar Svaiter, IMPA, Brazil)

The School will offer board and lodging to a limited number of students attending
either the elementary or the advanced minicourses. We expect to offer also partial
reimbursement of transportation fees to these students.

Students interested in participating in this School must send an application by
e-mail to joel.tossa@imsp-uac.org., enclosing their curriculum vitae.
They must also request a recommendation letter (e.g., from one of their professors),
which should be sent by e-mail to the same address.
